LER No. 54 - Celebrating One Year 🎉 (08.05.24)
The Legal Ethics Roundup - your Monday morning tour of all things related to lawyer and judicial ethics with University of Houston law professor Renee Knake Jefferson
Today marks exactly one year of the Legal Ethics Roundup. For some of you, that means we’ve started our Monday mornings together since August 2023. And what a year it has been:
53 Free Roundups (featuring 500+ Headlines & 100+ Reading Recommendations plus Ethics History, Reform Updates, Pop Culture, Trivia, Events & More)
16 Bonus Content Posts
150+ Job Listings
1,000+ Subscribers From 47 States and 39 Countries
1,500+ Reader Views Weekly
To celebrate the LER’s first birthday, I’m sharing some shoutouts from readers and highlighting my favorite posts from the past year.
But first, I need your help. Would you please take five minutes to complete a reader survey? I’d love to know what you’ve enjoyed and what you’d like to see in the future.
For the month of August, I’ll be putting the Roundup on pause to catch up on a few writing projects and tenure reviews due September 1. But don’t worry, I’ll be back after Labor Day to help us prepare for the new Supreme Court term in October, the elections in November, and whatever else emerges in the field of legal ethics! And now on to the shoutouts and the favorites.
LER Reader Shoutouts
Here are some of the great things readers have been saying in the LER’s first year.
“LER is a fantastic resource. Best read to start the week.”
“A wonderful service to those of us who work in the field of professional responsibility. I don't know how you manage to pull these reports together, but I'm glad that you do.”
“Thank you for doing this. I'm sure it is a lot of work, but I really like getting a weekly summary of major news.”
“Ever happy and grateful to get your really really excellent Substack! Pardon my French, but this one was a f*!%*! banger. So so so good!”
“Terrific! A worthwhile and readable contribution. Thanks, and keep 'em coming.”
"It’s informative and gathers material I wouldn’t know about without the roundup."
“a must-read for everyone in legal ethics”
Know someone who would love the LER as much as these readers? If so, please share it.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Writing this newsletter allowed me to reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and cope with the crazy headlines in the world of legal ethics. I’ve tried to also make the LER a place where excellent scholarship and service in the field is amplified. For those of you practicing or teaching in the field, I hope this newsletter is a resource to help elevate your own work. I also want to give a special thank you to our paid subscribers. Your contributions help support this effort. If you’ve found the LER worth reading over the past year, please consider becoming a paid subscriber.
